One of the many other ministries that we have here at YWAM San Diego/Baja is called Zona Norte. Zona Norte is an area of downtown Tijuana known for prostitution, drugs and lots of booze. It is the place to go for a "good time" and people come from all over, mostly from San Diego, to find it. While we have several ministries in the area (Zone Kids, a ministry to the children being raised in this area being one of them). We also work with a church, La Roca (the Rock), to disciple homeless men and women that live on the streets of Zona Norte. A few years ago, in partnership with our feeding ministry in the area, we decided to use our greatest "weapon", PRAYER, to make a change in this dark part of Tijuana.
Now every week, typically Friday or Saturday night, a group of people, guys & girls, head out to the Red Light District to pray, worship and spread Light over these darkened streets. They are on the front lines of breakthrough! Because this group goes out every single week, they have gained trust and access to places that no one else has. They are able to talk directly to girls who have been trafficked and minister to bouncers standing guard outside of the bars. They are able to share truth with people who are lost and looking to fill a void. They are able to pray with people to receive something, the only thing, that will fill that hole, Jesus.
Here are just a few of those stories:
From my friend and co-laborer, Tiffany: Stepping into the red light district in Tijuana, Mexico you can feel the hopelessness. You can get lost in the chaos. You can lose track of the innumerable girls lining the walls, and the untold stories of the girls working within the bars. You can get swallowed up in a sea of customers there for a “good time.” You can be over taken by the despair that is all around you. | From my friend and co-laborer, Lora: On our prayer walk in the red light district last night we had the opportunity to sing Happy Birthday to one of the girls, pray for her, and bless her next year as tears started to fill her eyes. Every week it's a privilege to go out. God keeps showing me his heart for "the one." I feel like he's saying, "will you give up your Saturday night for just one person to know greater depths of my love?" He is wooing so many hearts, but each individual is so special and so important to him. |
Please be in prayer for these amazing missionaries as they head to the front lines this week. Pray for safety, for protection, for conversations, for open doors, for God's Will to be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. If as you are praying, you receive any scriptures, words of encouragement or even pictures, please share them below in the comments or email me.
