A few months ago during one of our morning staff gatherings, our full-time missionaries, discipleship students and the Bible school all got together for intercession. This is a weekly occurrence at our YWAM San Antonio del Mar campus of YWAM San Diego/Baja but this time was different.
In case you didn't already know, intercession is just bringing something or someone before the Lord in prayer.
That's it!
Sounds simple, right?
So many times we think of intercession as boring or really hard to do. It doesn't have to be and I love living in a community that values prayer, intercession and making things fun! I mean did you read Intercession: A Way of Life.
For this one specific day, one of our missionaries decided that we were going to pray for each other. We were each given a balloon and access to some sharpies and the instructions to write down a need or two. We could keep them anonymous or write our name, was up to us.
As we started writing down our requests, we were all curious what this had to do with intercession and what exactly we were going to do with the balloons!
We didn't have to wait for long.
We gathered in the center of our main meeting area and blew up our balloons. Music was played and we tossed our balloons into the air. When the music stopped we grabbed a balloon & prayed for whatever was written on it. We spent about 2 minutes praying and then the music started again.
Toss, Pray, Repeat!

If you work with a youth group or college group, I highly recommend this exercise in intercession. It was so much fun & we were able to pray for each other in ways that can sometimes be hard face-to-face.
