I have heard the phrase/scripture "He will give you the desires of your heart" quoted so many times. I've even said it to others before. We often use this to encourage people that don't have their lives together or those who wish their lives were different. We use it as a cliche to make people feel better about their lives and situations. But do we really, fully understand what that means? I mean are we really thinking that God is some vending machine or Santa-like figure giving us all the things that we want? If our desire is to have a million dollars or extreme wealth because that will solve all of life's problems, do we honestly think that God will give us that?
Something that the Lord has been teaching me lately is all about the desires of my heart. A few months ago I wrote about those desires here and I had a HUGE response from so many people sharing their stories and encouragement along with their prayers. It is one of my most frequently visited blogs to date.

I am so very proud of this beautiful woman of God! Maria was in the Fall 2013 Compassion and Action DTS (Discipleship Training School) here at the San Antonio del Mar campus of YWAM (Youth With A Mission) San Diego/Baja. She was in my small group and one of my one-on-ones. I was so blessed to walk with her through the journey of finding true intimacy with The Lord as He romanced her throughout her DTS. You may remember reading a bit about Maria last fall as I wrote all about one of the many ways God was romancing her. She is the one that received a heart-shaped necklace from one of her fellow students during an act of giving. If you don't recall that particular story, head over & read it now, we will wait. She is currently in Norway doing her BCC (Biblical Core Course), a 3 month intensive inductive Bible study! Here is what the YWAM Rogaland base shared recently on Facebook about Maria and a few words from her about how important the BCC is to her. This girl is from New York, USA. Her name is Maria and she is part of the beautiful bouquet of BCC students. This is just one of the many facets of my life here with YWAM. This is why I do what I do! Serving Him through the everyday! If you liked this story, you will probably also like:

Every Friday evening my housemates and I walk across the patio of our apartment complex to meet with some fellow missionaries for Bible Study. This is our first endeavor and we are all excited about what God wants to do during this time. We are currently working our way through the book of Revelation. You may be thinking "WOW, what a book to start with" but having gone through this book on numerous occasions (in college at Lee, in my BCC class with YWAM and just my own interest in the book in general) I can say that I learn something new every time I read it and it is not as intimidating as it seems.
This past week we were talking about the Author, John the Beloved, and looking at various forms of historical value where we can find the people, places and events in the Bible and how to use these tools to be able to prove the Bible and this book's validity. We were looking at John the Beloved and the people he hung out with. When reading the book of Revelation it is easy to think that John was a nutcase with is visions of a dragon with 7 heads or locusts that look like horses or all the other crazy things mentioned in this book. But the fact is if we look at John outside of the book of Revelation we see that he was a highly respected person, he hung out with people like Peter, Stephen, James; people who were martyred (killed) because of their message. They believed in it so much that they were willing to die horrific deaths, some being crucified, some being stoned to death, some being dipped in wax and used as human candles for parties. These were the people who he was associated with. He was just like them, willing to die for the message. To tell you what I learned in the Biblical Core Course
I decided to write a poem and make you listen by force In Philemon, God is merciful and full of grace He charges me to do the same in this my eternal race In Ephesians, God is a mystery that is already solved He asks me to pass this along to those who are unresolved In Mark, God is a lowly servant who suffers along with the rest He wants me to serve others as if they were my guest In Acts, God is powerful and miraculous in so many ways But He will be like that even through the End of Days In Romans, God is the same for everyone whether Greek or Jew He would like to be the same for them, for me and for you In Genesis, God is the creator of all and a very close Friend Sometimes I think that these concepts are more than I can comprehend In 1&2 Kings, God is constant in the midst of a disobedient nation If you look and listen carefully, you can sense God’s frustration In Hebrews, God is greater than all things in heaven and on earth The wealth of this knowledge is definitely all it is worth In Revelation, God is gracious and the King of Kings When this is revealed I see that all of Heaven continually sings In Amos, God is and will forever be considered just This something that I need to learn, it is a must Now, granted I knew all of this about God before But it is wonderful to see even that much more It has been interesting to see, Even though he is all of this to me He was and is and will forever be, I think we can agree Faithful, Merciful, Gracious and Just God just wants my love and my trust. This is what I have learned so far I can’t wait to see who else You are. |
