One of our teachers this quarter saw these on Pinterest and we decided to try our hand at making them. {See what I did there, hehe?} I think ours turned out super cute, what do you think?
I did steal/borrow this pic from craftymorning.com to show you how you need to paint the hand to make the scarecrow look totally awesome!
You will need 3 colors of paint to make this happen; a face color, a shirt color and a pant color. We used tan for the face, orange for the boys and purple for the girls shirts and blue for the pants aka jeans.
You need to paint the palm of the child's hand with the face color leaving some room along the edge nearest the fingers. Paint the edge and the middle three fingers (pointer, middle and ring fingers) with the pant color and the thumb and pinky fingers, with the palm edge, in the shirt color.
When you position the child's hand on the paper, they should put their middle 3 fingers together while spreading their thumb and pinking out. You will also be placing the hand facing downward on the paper so that the scarecrow is facing the correct way.
We decided to add some "straw" to ours to make it look a bit more authentic. We used some leftover yarn pieces from a lion craft and it worked out great. I also had the kids draw in the faces. In our finished product, I made sure to show you what it looked like before we added the straw and after so you could make your own choice on which way you like it better.
