One of the main activities in a traditional Montessori classroom in the practical life area is flower arranging. Now many people think that this is a very antiquated skill to have but here on our YWAM, Youth With A Mission, campus we put flower arrangements all around all the time. Each week we host teams that come down to build homes for families in need. As part of our call to Hospitality we welcome these guests with beautiful flowers, snacks and smiles. So for us, we are just training our future hospitality team but they think it's just a game.
It was fairly simple to set this up. I bought a basket from Hobby Lobby during their 50% off baskets days (SCORE) and got a thick, glass vase from the Dollar Store. The Dollar Store also had plastic, fall flowers so I grabbed a couple bunches. I used some wire cutters to snip off the individual flower stems.
I took a picture of a completed arrangement and then put it out on the shelf. See, super simple.
Here are a few pictures of the kids playing the Flower Arranging Activity.
