As Mother's Day approaches, every year I wonder just how sensitive of a holiday this could be in my classroom. How do I handle it?
To help make sure that I'm careful with the very diverse family dynamics that we as teachers face year after year, I have my students create "love jars."
These are jars that allow my students to show their love for anyone in their family that is important to them. (That means, they are not limited to just Mother's Day!)
Students use baby food jars (or anything of the like) and decorate them with cute little slips inside that share their feelings. To make sure we are covering Father's day too, we sometimes will make two.
