- Teachers work long hours. Yes, their hours are technically only around 7:30 am - 4:00 pm but if you talk to a teacher's family you will know that they are working all hours of the day and night, weekdays and weekends.
- Teachers are way underpaid. Yes, they get a salary and many think that for the "hours" they put in and the fact that they are "off" all summer long. However, as mentioned above, they work long hours and most of their summer is spent with professional development and creating materials, activities, and decor.
- Teachers spend what little they do get paid on their classrooms and their students. Favorite places for teachers are the dollar spot at Target, the dollar store and thrift stores. These places provide tons of materials and supplies for their class but at a fraction of the cost. These places also provide tons of outlets for their creativity which leads me to my next point.
- Teachers are extremely creative. Because a teacher is underpaid and yet uses their own funds to fill their class, they are required to get creative. This can be seen by the numerous posts on Pinterest. I mean who else would think of turning a crate into a storage unit & alternative seating. Who else would think to use flat-rate boxes free from the post office to make class mailboxes or paper storage. Who else would make a poster stand from pvc pipes. Am I right??
- Teachers are the most influential yet under appreciated profession in the world {besides parents}. Think about it. How do doctors and lawyers become doctors and lawyers? They have to go to school for hours/years/decades. Who else do you think is in that same school? That's right, TEACHERS!
As a teacher, let us all reach to pull out the potential of each student that comes through our doors so that they can reach to the stars and be all that God has created them to be.
