Matching mainly involves one-to-one correspondence. The game "Memory" is one good way to teach young children about matching. This game begins with pairs of pictures face down. Each player flips over two cards. If the cards match, the player keeps them and flips over two more cards. If they don't match, the player flips them face down, and the next person has a turn to find a match.
Teaching young children how to match, classify, and measure is an important part of developing early math skills because these skills help children identify and describe relationships between items. As a child care care provider, you can help young children learn these skills in several ways.

In 1948 a list of the most frequently used words in the English language was compiled by Edward William Dolch, PhD. He compiled the list based on words used in children's reading books in the 1930s and 40s. The list contains 220 words that must be quickly recognized in order to achieve reading fluency.
The Dolch Word List, also called Sight Words or The Dolch 220, includes pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and verbs. Sight words make up 50 to 70 percent of any general text and many can't be sounded out but must be learned by "sight" (aka memorized). Therefore, teaching The Dolch Word List is a crucial goal of education in grades kindergarten through 3. The list is divided into grade levels. In this sampler pack, you will find the PreK list of words in a fun coloring activity that promotes recognition of the sight words as well as color recognition and following directions. The difference between this & my other Hidden Sight Word packs is each page reveals a fun Fall Picture instead of the sight word. I will adding more Hidden Sight Word packs soon so make sure you check back frequently. |
AuthorI am on an amazing adventure traveling the world with Jesus. After 7 years of teaching preschool in Alabama, God called me to the mission field in Mexico full time. I led short-term missions trips for 6 years and the Lord opened the door for me to mix both of my passions, missions and teaching. I am now the director of Little Builders Preschool and we will soon be opening a full International K-12 school. The current students are missionary kids but will be open to the local community in the future. As a full-time missionary, I do not receive a traditional pay check. I rely on the generous support of friends, family & people like you. As any teacher does, much of what we use in our school is purchased by me out of my own personal funds. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our ministry and help our students reach their potential in education.
